The Celebration of Sharing

Brew has asked me to think about server wide events. Events can be great fun to tighten the bonds between the community and different settlements. I have some experience setting up events in MMOs (like WOW and other online games) so here is my suggestion.

We'd have to dress it up a little, make it a thematical experience instead of just a random festival. But with a little bit of preparation I think this could be great fun.

We would call it the Celebration of Generosity. And it would most likely be a seasonal event. So there'd be four festivals each year. Basically, there are three stages of the festival.

In the first stage (morning), the Passing of Gifts, neighbours come together to get to know eachother, share stories about the last summer and all villages create a bundle of gifts (usually named objects like statues, jewelery, clothing etc) or delicacies to share with the other villages.

Step two (afternoon): the settlers then come together and share a Great Feast. Every village brings the finest wares, and all cooks will work together to create food for everyone. Some foods (like special wines) will be prepared in advance. Others will be made together on the spot.

Step three (evening): Settlers share the best stories of the past season (summer?) by a campfire. Spectacular events like dragon encounters, getting lost in the wilderness, maybe even some folklore or other fun stories. These could be prepared in advance.

To encourage getting to know one and another, the festival could be hosted in a different village each season. The village would prepare the festival by finding a nice location nearby (or in the village) and place pavillions, flowerbeds etc.

I think this could be really nice!
